Dororo revolves around the adventures of Hyakkimaru (alternatively Hyaki Maru), who is missing 48 parts of his body due to a bargain his father made with 48 demons in return for Japanese power. He is hideously disformed when Hyakkimaru is born, and is thrown into a river to die. Instead, he is rescued by a doctor named Jukai and grows up to be a young man whose missing parts of the body have been replaced by prosthetics (many of which contain hidden weapons). To team up with Hyakkimaru is Dororo, a street-living kid (and thief). They set out together to kill the 48 demons, and retrieve the missing pieces of Hyakkimaru 's body. The manga has never been completed by Tezuka so the planned conclusion to the story is uncertain.
