Synopsis Kokushi No Shima Manga

A few days before, the non-fiction writer Katsuragi Shiho came to see Shikibu Takeru in his Tokyo office.

She gave him the key to his apartment and told him if she hadn't come back from her trip in 3 days to look after her stuff. Unfortunately she has not returned in three days, nor in four. Perhaps more importantly, no-one seemed to even know where she was.

Kokushi No Shima. Two friends are investigating a writer's disappearance on a small island, effectively cut off from the mainland after the decline of the Shinto during the Meji period. We come across several odd things, like a naked female corpse hanging upside down on a tree during one stormy night. Locals talk of ancient myths, folk customs and superstitions but after discovering more corpses, Shiho and Tsuyoshi wonder if there is a serial killer among the locals ...
